STATEMENT ON BEHALF FOR THE PAPUA CUSTOMARY COUNCIL AND LAND IS LIFE

Dear Madam Chair,

Papua indigenous people have been worse condition for years due to our objection of being Indonesian people. Years passing by and we remain to claim our position as Melanesian which lead to anger by Indonesia government and its military.

The issue of the Act of Free Choice in 1969 had become the basic theme of protests of Papua indigenous people, leading in number of cases such as Laskar Jihad and militia forces.

Protect Akha Human Rights - Akha voices

My name is Michu Wurh Zurh. I am an Akha woman and I live in northern Thailand.

My husband helped the Akha people, that is all he did and the Thai government kicked him out of Thailand in April of 2004. They did not like that he helped my people. We are 70,000 in Thailand. He gave the Akha free medicine, milk for mother’s, vitamins, took people to the hospital. He did it all for free. He did not kill anyone, he did not sell drugs, so why has the Thai government kicked him out of Thailand?

AKHA VOICES - Akha Human Rights - UPDATED WITH FILM

The Akha struggle for their human rights in SE Asia. One of the most severe human rights situation for the Akha People is in Thailand.
The Thai government continues to seize Akha land as confirmed in the US Human Rights Report on Thailand for 2005. The Thai government continues to harass Akha Human Rights workers. The Thai government continues to carry out extra-judicial killings of the Akha people.

Roy Sesana, the Alternative Nobel Prize winner, speaks

My name is Roy Sesana; I am a Gana Bushman from the Kalahari in what is now called Botswana. In my language, my name is ‘Tobee' and our land is ‘T//amm'. We have been there longer than any people has been anywhere.

When I was young, I went to work in a mine. I put off my skins and wore clothes. But I went home after a while. Does that make me less Bushman? I don't think so.
