Kennedy Memorial Center for Human Rights (CHR)-West Papua Advocacy Team providing updates on developments in West Papua. The CHR has monitored and reported on the human rights situation in West Papua since 1993 when Indonesian lawyer Bambang Widjojanto received the annual RFK Human Rights Award.

Indonesia missed opportunity to restore military ties: US ambassador

JAKARTA, Oct 11 (AFP) - Indonesia missed an opportunity to restore military ties with the United States by failing to make its soldiers accountable for abuses in East Timor, the outgoing US ambassador said Monday.

U.S. Senate Continues Restrictions on Military Assistance for Indonesia

WASHINGTON - September 24 - The U.S. Senate yesterday voted to renew bans on International Military Education and Training (IMET) and foreign military financing (FMF) for Indonesia. In passing the Foreign Operations Appropriations bill, the Senate agreed to continue the ban on grants of military equipment through the FMF program and on licenses for export of lethal equipmentuntil certain conditions are met, and to extend the ban on IMET until the State Department determines that the Indonesian armed forces and government are cooperating with the FBI's investigation into the murder of U.S.
