West Papua and Sanma province in Vanuatu forge closer ties

After a protest through town by young people in Luganville last year the chiefs of West Papua have finally met with chiefs from the Supeinatwitano Council of Chiefs (SCC) and the Luganville Council of Chiefs (LCC). Their meeting was held at the chief's nakamal yesterday. President of Luganville Council of Chiefs, Chief Wycliff Taga told the West Papua delegation they will continue to support the West Papua cause until they are liberated.

Press Release, 28th September 2004. Today, Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Barak Sope Tame MAATAMATE of Vanuatu call the UN to take moral and political responsibility for it’s past mistake on the issue of West Papua. He reaffirmed that to bring last peace and security in West Papua, the issue of self-determination and independence of the people of West Papua and review of the conduct of the UN in relation to the Act of “Free Choice” in 1969 must be given a central attention in new UN reform program.

UPDATED: West Papuan Refugees Asking the Vanuatu Prime Minister to Remove them to Vanuatu

His Excellency Prime Minister of Vanuatu, In relation to the plan of PNG government to remove West Papuan Refugees 2000 to Kiunga, East Awin, PNG, at the moment we are continuously refusing it as there are so many problems related to the processes of the removal. The only reason is the the Papuans do not want to move, as they know already that Kiunga is the hell for them. Whoever sent there have never come back alive. That is the open prison for anyone from this Papua Soil.
