US Missionaries Force Sterilisation of the Akha woman

Fri, 11/30/2007 - 09:24 — Carried out by North American missionaries, this ethnocide, is an outrage that just has to be stopped, before the extermination of the home less & land less Akha is completed. What kind of a world is this, if we just stand by and allow these so called christians! to get away with this.

The US American Baptist Missionary Paul W. Lewis as a student at the University of Oregon proposed a thesis on going to Thailand and sterilizing Akha women in order to get his PhD. This was approved and Paul W. Lewis cooperated with the Thai govt. who wanted to get rid of the Akha. While the film says that Paul W. Lewis unwittingly cooperated with the Thai govt. his own words actually contradict this, it was much more willing than that.

The entire thesis of Paul W. Lewis can be seen at http://www.akha.org/content/sterilizations/index.html
The University of Oregon has defended this thesis as late as Sept. 2007. The President's Frohnmayer's office has denied that there was any dishonesty or lack of Free, Prior and Informed Consent.

Paul W. Lewis set the stage for the sterilizations of the Akha which continue to this day. Few if any missionaries challenge the legitimacy of what Paul W. Lewis did, showing that they are the same in their thinking. No missionary website ever published a condemnation of this program.

Paul W. Lewis should be charged with the crime of Genocide before the International Criminal Court.
